Our Trip to Kamloops June 2012

Our Trip to Kamloops:
Lincoln and I very rarely go on a trip just by ourselves. Don't get me wrong, we travel by ourselves to Nanny and Grandpa's house, but we rarely go somewhere just the two of us with the entire point of the trip being just Lincoln andMommy on a trip. We travel with my parent's all the time. I love travelling with my parents. I think it's great for Lincoln to spend time with them and I love to spend time with them as well. BUT on this particular trip, it was just Lincoln and I off to Kamloops for a night. (Yes, we only went for one, and then we went up to Tumbler to visit Nanny and Grandfather).

So, I packed us a few snacks, buckled my little buddy in and off we went. We had travelled for a whole whopping half an hour when Lincoln got carsick. This happens from time to time. Not all the time that he travels, but I would say about 30% of the time, he ends up carsick. I am prepared for these episodes. I keep a lovely little bucket in the back seat just for those special times when this type of crisis arises. Sadly, the bucket was just out of reach and Lincoln puked everywhere! He was smart enough to put his hand up to his mouth, but that meant that all the puke went right into his lap.
Because this was only a one day trip, I had packed limitted amounts of clothes for us. I didn't want to risk Lincoln getting sick on a second set of clothes, so once he got sick, I pulled into a lovely little rest area just before Hixon and used most (if not all) of our bottled water to wash him off. I then told him that he could travel in his undies and t-shirt, (which had gotten a bit pukey, but was easily rinsed during out unscheduled pit-stop.
Lincoln was amazed by this. He kept saying, 'in my undies?' I'd say yes and he'd paraphrase it some other way, 'Just my undies?'. After much convincing, we loaded back up again and hit the road again. I reminded him to keep his puke bucket closer this time! He asked 'Is this close enough?'
I turned around to find him with the bucket on his head. Sure, that's perfectly close, I decided.
Apparently, being car sick can wear a person out and after a few minutes,
he drifted off to dreamland.
Now, I usually don't let Lincoln go bouncing around on the beds all 'willy-nilly' but since this was a special trip and we were staying in a hotel, I said 'yes' to a few things I would normally say no to. It made for a wonderful trip. He had a great time! (Notice, he's still in his undies and t-shirt- there were no more unscheduled pit stops for puking along the way!)

After such a long car ride, it's a definite must to have a hotel with a swimming pool.
Even better, we had the whole pool to ourselves!

Here's the tip of Lincoln's head after he jumped into the pool and took off swimming.

And here's the SPLASH of one of his jumpes!!

Hopefully these two videos work. This is him jumping in and spreading his legs as wide as he can. I have no idea why he was doing that, but he wanted me to video him so who am I to judge?

This one is another 'wide' legged jump. But in this one, he swims across the pool after jumping in.

And of course, after a swim in the pool - a soak in the hot tub is a must!

Pizza in bed. Another thing that he's not usually allowed to do, but on special Lincoln and Mommy trips, you're allowed to eat in bed.
(He picked off all his toppings - silly fussy boy only likes the pizza crust.)

The next day, we visited (betcha can't guess where?)

One last pose before going inside the Kamloops Wildlife Park.

Lincoln was in charge of the map. And a darn fine tour-guide he was too!

Grizzly Cubs.

More Grizzly cubs. Lincoln is a big fan of bears.

Somewhere in the back of him, there is a porcupine.

And consulting the map - we're off to the train station!

Holding hands with the wierd statue guy.

Lincoln was amazed with this Manequin lady. He kept calling out to her and calling out to her - even though I told him she wasn't real.
After the trip he talked about her as much as he talked about the all of the animals that we saw.

Riding the train around the wildlife park.

He had quite a bit of fun on it - checking out the animals from the train.

The engineer letthing him ring the bell and check out the engine.

The engineer helping him down.

Checking out the owls.

Seeing if his 'wing-span' is as wide as an eagles!
At the top of the long pipe type slide - I thought this was a pretty neat picture.

And here he is coming down it. He sat on his hands to slow himself down beccause the first time - he went so fast that he pretty much shot out the bottom of the slide.

Deciding if he's brave enought to jump down from the bear exhibit.

Yup - he was brave enough!
Posing by the bear signs. He really likes the bears. Black Bears or Grizzly bears, it really doesn't matter. He just loves looking at the bears. We came back to those exhibits quite a few times.
Lincoln pretending to be a moose at the moose pen.
Another Moose pose.
Now pretending to be a duck.
And now pretending to be a wolf with very sharp claws.
Checking the little houses for Smurfs.
Still no Smurfs.....
"Are you in there little Smurfs? Come out! Come out! Where-ever you are!!"
Peeking down from the nest at the park.
At the petting zoo - brushing the goats....
Brushing the other side of this goat..
I was so focused on taking pictures of Lincoln, I didn't notice this little goat until he bumped me with his head to get my attention. Crazy goat!!

Brushing another goat...

I told him to look at me and smile so I could take a nice picture... and... he complied, but in doing so he stopped brushing the goat... and....

The goat bit the brush right out of Lincoln's hand... He was not impressed!!

Laughing at the little pigs in the pen.

He asked if he could run across this bridge. I told him he should just walk across it... but he was determined to run full steam ahead over it.
And NO SURPRISE - he fell! This is him showing me his injured knee!

But the promise of a trip back to the park meant a speedy recovery.
His knee was healed lickety split and off he ran to the park!

Climbing on the giant monster web at the park.

Playing in the giant sandbox.
Running through the tunnel.
Posing at the end of the tunnel...
Up the climbing wall...

Adjusting his hat before going down the pole.

And despite the adjusting, his hat still fell off.
Climbing on rocks...

Posing on the bridge.
Hiding behind a tree before we went inside to check out the 'museum' part of the park.

Touching a cougar fur inside the Wilderness Park. He was amazed at the eyes - or lack there off. He must have asked the poor woman at the table a million questions about this fur - and half of them were probably about his eyes!

Posing with a huge bug - we took this picture just for Nanny!!

Climbing up the big tree inside the Park. I went inside and asked him to look down the ladder at me - he looked down and then got soooo mad and told me:
"Now Look what you did, Mommy!! You made me scared of heights!"

Inside the beaver damn with a bunch of stuffed animals.

That phone is hooked up to a microphone inside a bee hive. He was fascinated with that exibit too!
Pointing at all the honey-bees in between the glass.

A close up shot of the bees in the hive making honey... another picture just for Nanny.
(We know how much she loves bugs!)
Curling up by the hibernating bear, pretending to be asleep.

After we left the Park, we headed to "Toys R Us."
This was his first trip ever to a Toys R Us store. He was very excited. I told him he could pick a toy to buy. He selected a box of Lego which he carried around for about the first 45 minutes we were in the store. Right up until we turned a corner and ended up in....

The "SCOOBY DOO" Section!! I didn't even know there was such a section!!
He was crazy excited and that look on his face is because
I had him pose for this picture before he got to look at that Scooby Doo toys!
Needless to say, the Lego was put back on the shelf to pick something 'better'.

In the parking lot with his purchases! The Mystery Machine and the Scooby Doo Gang.
The Scooby Gang. I told him he had to wait until we got home to open the Scooby Van, but I let him open the gang for the drive home. He played with those guys for the next 5 hours!

Pit Stop in Cache Creek to pose by this prospector guy!

I have no idea why it looks like Lincoln is scoping out this guys ear?

Hugging the Prospector and then back in the car to head home.
This was a great trip. We're definitely going to have to take a few more Lincoln and Mommy trips. As I said it's always nice to travel with my parents and it's great to have them along with us or for us to go along with them. But this trip was just us so Lincoln had my un-divided attention the entire time. I think he was just thrilled with that part of it! (Not that he doesn't have my un-divided attention when we are at home, but I think this was the first time we were ever on a trip alone just him and I.) It was definitely worth it. We had a great time and made some fantastic memories!
